Sintruco Blend is a blend of three grape varieties from two different valleys. The Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes come from a vineyard located 35 kilometres from the coast in the Cauquenes neighbourhood of the dry inland area of the Maule Valley, known as the Secano Interior. The Carignan grapes are from 70-year-old, dry-farmed, bush-trained vines, while the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are from 20-year-old, VSP-trained vines, which are also unirrigated. Both grow in granitic soil with a high presence of quartz.
Finally, the Syrah comes from 15-year-old vines planted in colluvial soils in the San Juan de Pirque area in the Maipo Valley.
Each variety was harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified separately. The grapes were destemmed and selected, and some of the grapes were slightly crushed in order to gently release their juice. The process began with a three- to five-day cold maceration, then alcoholic fermentation was carried out with native yeasts from the vineyard and gentle pump-overs were used to homogenize the contents of the tank. The temperature was controlled so as not to exceed 24°C-25°C (75°F-77°F). Once alcoholic fermentation was complete, the wine was left in contact with the skins and seeds for an additional eight to ten days. The wine was racked off and the solids were pressed. The press wine was blended with the free-run wine. The wine was then racked into 225-litre French oak barrels, 20% new and 80% used, where it aged for a total of 10 months.
